Acoustic study for Reciprocating Pump
The Acoustic study for reciprocating pump could be performed as per API 674, and the Acoustic analysis includes the pulsation dampener sizing, acoustic resonance assessment as well as mechanical resonance for piping system. INERTANCE can perform Design approach for pulsation study as per related API standards.

- Net Positive Inlet Pressure (NPIP) and Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH)
- Volumetric Efficiency and Pulsation
- Helmholtz Frequency Estimation
As results of acoustic simulation, the location of pulsation control device has to be determined. For example, Pulsation dampener and surge volume have to be located as per those sound speed and acoustic wave length of those fluid as well as acoustic resonance. The best way is to install them around nozzle location of reciprocating pump as close as possible.
Acoustic Resonance, API 674
Below figures show the efficiency for pulsation control efficiency by pulsation dampener application as results of acoustic resonance & mechanical resonance. As results of them, the pulsation amplitude is significantly improved and reduced with application of pulsation dampener.
